We currently hold meetings on a weekly basis, alternating between Zoom sessions and in-person sessions in the city centre. These last about two hours and start at 10am (on Zoom) and 10.30am (in person).
What do our meetings look like?
There is no single Chairperson of the group – the role is filled by our members based on availability.
- The Chair for this week goes around the group and has each person read out their weekly task (a roughly 250 word piece inspired by a prompt given by the Chair prior to the meeting).
- A main piece is read out by a member.
- Once the reading is finished, members will raise their hands to indicate that they have feedback to give. The Chair will ask them to give their comments one at a time to keep things clear and tidy. The reader is not allowed to respond to any comments just yet.
- When all feedback has been given, the Chair will tell the reader that it’s their turn to reply; they can then answer any questions, address any issues or otherwise respond to the feedback they’ve received.
- This repeats for the other people who have work to read out that week.
- Before the meeting ends, the Chair for the following week is decided; they will either set the task on the spot, or send it out by email during the week.
Meetings usually run for about two hours with a 10-15 minute break in the middle.
Pieces submitted for feedback are usually a maximum of 1500 words, but can sometimes run over that if time allows.
